Bob graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a BS in Political Science in 1990, attended The Basic School in 1991, and completed Naval Flight School in 1993. He was selected to pilot the AV-8B Harrier, and flew combat missions in Bosnia Herzegovina, Kosovo, Kuwait, and Iraq from both land and sea bases. As his career advanced, and his skills not just as a pilot, but as a leader, were proven, Bob served as Commander of Marine Attack Squadron-311 and Marine Aircraft Group 14.
As a Marine, Bob continued his studies and went on to receive an MBA in Military Management from Touro University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College; and he put them to use. His staff assignments include Head, Strategic Assessment Branch, Programs & Resources, Headquarters Marine Corps in the Pentagon; Defense Resource Analyst for the Joint Staff; Director, Strategic Planning and Policy of the United Nations Command, US Forces Korea, and Combined Forces Command (ROK/US); Deputy Commander United States Marine Corps Forces Pacific; and Deputy Commanding General of Operations for Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve.

After completing his last assignment, Commanding General, United States Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa, where he tirelessly supported NATO and Ukrainian allies, Bob retired from the Marine Corps in 2025 as a Major General. In 2011, Bob successfully completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School and today, he puts it into practice alongside his vast military and leadership experience. Throughout much of Bob's military career, he interfaced with and even directly operated defense procurement channels. He is uniquely and supremely qualified to understand the needs of the military customer and how the private sector and the Armed Forces best connect and intersect. With that experience at the forefront, Bob directs Sofge Capital Partners to optimize US capital deployment in the defense sector and to lead a quality vanguard in today's defense revolution.
